Ayurvedic Bronchitis Herbal Care


Introduction

Bronchitis is known as kasa roga in ayerverda. This is an infection of the bronchi in the lungs and the symptoms are more severe than a cold or a cough. Bronchitis involves inflammation of the bronchial tiubes. These tubes carry oxygen to the lungs. Patients often experience sevre coughing with phelegm, loss of appetite and breahlessness. Ayurvedic medicine focuses on trying to clear the phlegm from the lungs.

• Sjogren's Syndrome
• Upper Respiratory Infection
• More prevelant in cold, damp conditions.

Ayurvedic types of bronchitis

A variety of symptoms can manifest according to our body type (Vata, Pitta or Kapha) or one can experience a combination of 2 or more types.
Vata Symptoms:
• Cardiac pain,
• pain in chest,
• loss of strength,
• patient finds it difficult to speak,
• frequent urge for coughing,
• cough is dry

Pitta Symptoms:

• Burning sensation in chest,
• dry mouth,
• desire to drink water,
• sometimes vomiting of yellow material,
• patient appears pale,
• burning sensation in the body.
Kapha Symptoms:
• Sticky mouth,
• headache,
• body feels heavy as if full of phlegm,
• itching,
• anorexia,
• not many attacks of cough, but when coughing a lot of phlegm comes out.


Ayurvedic (ayurveda) treatment for bronchitis

Herb name: Mullein

Botanical Name: Verbascum thapsus flowers

Introduction: Mullein is used to remove heat and congestion from the nasal passage. This is a traditional medicine which has powerful effects. Mullein removes accumulated phlegm, cleansing the lympathics and bronchi. Mullein is especially good for mumps, earaches and glandular swellings. It has strong nervine and pain relieving properties. The aromatic oil of Mullein has very strong anti-inflammatory healing properties for relieving inflamed nerve tissue. Mullein tea can be drunk along with Mullein powder for added effect.

• Decreases phlegm.
• Decreases coughing and breathlessness
• Decreases inflammation and infection
• Analgesic (pain relieve)
• Rejuvenation properties

Contra-indications:

• Not recommended for people with kidney disease or acute rashes.
